Our varieties
At Sloots Potato Breeding Company, we develop potato varieties based on our own genetics, with a strong focus on disease resistance, reliability, and practical applicability. Our assortment consists of both commercially available varieties and promising selections currently under development.
The varieties are being developed for various applications within the potato chain, including starch, chip, and french fry production. Thanks to years of selection and practical research, varieties are emerging that meet the needs of growers, processors, and the industry.

Our top performers

Seresta
Seresta originated from base breeding by the Foundation for Plant Breeding (SVP) in Wageningen, combined with Sonate: at the time the best variety within the program of Sloots Aardappelkweekbedrijf.
The SVP had upgraded wild material and made it available to breeders. This material contained a new form of resistance to pallida, Type E. Many breeders started working with this, but Sloots Aardappelkweekbedrijf was the first to bring a variety with resistance from this source to the market.
That is also where the name comes from: Sloot's first (eerste) E-resistant potato (aardappel). In short: Seresta.
The introduction of Seresta came at an important moment. Precisely during that period, the use of chemical soil disinfection was being increasingly restricted. The sector needed varieties with strong resistance, combined with the ability to reduce the nematode population in the soil.
Seresta proved to be of great value in this regard. The combination of high yield and strong resistance has ensured that the variety has been grown with confidence for decades. By now, Seresta represents over 30 years of practical experience and proven reliability within the sector.
Saprodi
Saprodi builds on the success of Seresta.
The variety originated from a cross between Scarlet and Sofista, both from Sloots Aardappelkweekbedrijf's own variety portfolio.
Saprodi combines a high yield with a number of strong additional properties. The variety shows good virus resistance, possesses drought tolerance, and has very low sugar content during storage. Vooral voor de vlokkenindustrie is dat een belangrijke eigenschap.
The external and qualitative characteristics also make Saprodi interesting. The attractive tuber shape and dark yellow flesh color provide a strong basis for further breeding, particularly for varieties outside of starch applications and for flake production.
This makes Saprodi not only a valuable successor within the existing assortment, but also an important building block for the development of new varieties with broader application possibilities.
